Abstract The University of Nevada began in Elko, Nevada, but never attracted more than thirty-five students in a single year. In 1885, the legislature made arrangements for moving the institution to Reno. In August 1885, they broke ground for the first university building in Reno, the future Morrill Hall, which was completed in 1886.
