Abstract Mary L. Gojack (1936-1985) served in the Nevada State Assembly from 1972-1974 and the Nevada State Senate from 1974-1978. In 1980, Gojack unsuccessfully challenged Paul Laxalt for the US Senate seat, and, in 1982, she ran against Barbara Vucanovich for the newly created Second Congressional District seat. Isabel Kimble was active in Nevada committees that worked to gain approval of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) from 1973-1977. The Northern Nevada Chapter (NNC) of the National Organization for Women (NOW) was organized at a meeting of forty women in Reno in September, 1973, by Patricia Lynch and Cheryl Jean Yee.
