Letters from Watkins at Carson City, Ft. Churchill, and Genoa, Nevada to "My Dear Burnett," plus typescripts: the first describes Watkins' difficulties with federal soldiers claiming his land for Ft. Churchill and his going into debt; the second letter continues his tale of disagreement with the military, price of hay, intentions of building a hotel, and arrival of the Paiute Chief Winnemucca at Ft. Churchill; the third was written from jail in Genoa and discusses his financial and legal status; the fourth, also from jail, apologizes for thinking Burnett had abandoned him, condemns those who betrayed him, discusses the charges of murder, and the possibilities of being lynched by a mob. Also present are letters from an historian providing a biography of Watkins.
