Series 2: Photographic Projects, 1917-2015

 Series

Scope and Contents

Series 2 consists of manuscript drafts, captions documents, correspondence, press coverage, and other materials related to Goin's photographic projects for publication and exhibition. It is divided into broad geographic categories, reflecting the importance of place and geography in Goin's work. It is important to note, however, that though place is important in Goin's work, there are also significant conceptual and thematic elements, such as water use and the impact of humankind on the natural landscape, which are common themes throughout the series.

Series 2 is divided into project-based series and subseries that reflect Goin's original file management. Additionally, records for several projects whose files were originally contained within Series 1 are located in this series; for the most part, these files were more limited in nature and as such are grouped within the "Other Works" subseries. One of Goin's significant projects, California Agriculture, is not represented here, as project materials are held entirely at the University of California, Berkeley's Bancroft Library. Projects that are still in progress (primarily Dooby Lane, Lake Powell, and Lake Tahoe-related projects) are not represented in full.
