Series 2, Subseries 1, Sub-subseries 3 consists of materials relating to Goin's 2005 book Black Rock, co-authored with Paul Starrs. In his resume, Goin writes, "The story is an accounting of the people who move there—and leave, or move there—and stay. It is about making sense of the senses, not one at a time, but altogether: From the Granite Range to playa surface salts, from the black rock to the solitary spring, this is a land of perspectives and elements." Series 2, Subseries 1, Sub-subseries 10, Scenes from the Black Rock, and Series 3, Subseries 2, In Search of Ritual: Burning Man are geographically-related but conceptually distinct projects.
