History of the Republican Women’s Club of Reno, circa 1959
Scope and Contents
The Washoe County Republican Women’s Club Records contains some of the earliest records for the group in the form of minutes from the initial founding meetings at the end of 1949. There are also two scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, programs, and photographs covering the years from 1953 to 1965. Newspaper clippings primarily document club activities, members, and the Republican Party. Please note that photographs are adhered to the pages of the scrapbooks and have not been removed. Some photographs became loose, but remain where they were once attached. Photographs are primarily of unidentified women in the club documenting club activities.
Also included are two other scrapbooks that document state activities. Scrapbook 3 contains information on the Nevada Federation of Republican Women as well as other general club information from 1964 to 1969 and is comprised of press clippings and photos (also adhered to the pages). The final scrapbook documents the Republican Women of Las Vegas STARS (Sub-Teenager Republican) group. It includes correspondence from the national level regarding STARS, photographs of participating youth, and programming material.
Administrative records included in the series were mostly found loose in Scrapbook 2. They have been removed for both preservation and access and placed in folders in chronological order among the other materials. Records include bylaws, minutes, and newsletters.
