Biographical Note

Lela Halsell Hempton was born in Missouri in 1896 and moved to Nevada in 1904. She was educated in Nevada and taught at several one-room schools in Nevada, as well as schools in San Francisco. She married Gordon Hempton in about 1927 and moved to Sacramento, California, where she lived at the time her memoirs were written.
