Scope and Contents

The Lynn Ossolinski Papers consists of materials related to her work with the AAUW and the AAUW's Education Equity (EE) program.

Series 1 consists of AAUW minutes, budgets, policy sheets, convention materials, correspondence, and newsletters. Dating from about 1991-1995, these records were acquired or created by Lynn during her term as an AAUW officer. AAUW subject files include abortion, diversity, "Leaders on Loan" program, libraries, schools, violence, and files on named individuals.

Series 2, Education Equity, includes materials related to the planning and carrying out of several EE round tables; and resource and informational materials on EE and the related topics of "glass ceilings," "Hostile Hallways" program, and education goals. This series is arranged in alphabetical order by folder title.

Biographical Note

Lynn Roberts Ossolinski was born in Vallejo, California in 1943. She graduated from Reno High School in 1961; received a B.S. in Elementary Education and History from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1965; a Certificate as a Professional Librarian from the University in 1975; and a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration in 1983 from the University of San Francisco. She has taught in public schools at the elementary level and been a librarian at Incline Middle School and now Incline High School at Incline Village, Nevada. In 1990 she served as director of the Nevada Literacy Coalition in the Governor's Office, Carson City, Nevada.

Ossolinski has been active in and an officer for many library associations, including the Library Instruction Round Table, Mountain Plains Library Association, Nevada Library Association, and American Library Association. She is also a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and served as state vice president and president for Nevada. She has been especially active in the AAUW Educational Equity Committee which seeks ways to ensure that educational opportunities are administered equally to both girls and boys, and in literacy programs.

Among the awards given to Lynn are Citizen of the Month from the Incline Village, Crystal Bay Chamber of Commerce; Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service to the Library Literacy Program from the U.S. Department of Education; the AAUW Humanities Award; and an Award of Excellence from the Nevada Library Association, School Librarians' Section.
