Biographical Note

Peter C. Petersen was born at Thisted, Denmark, in 1893. He apprenticed as a baker, the trade at which he made a living until 1933. In 1915, he emigrated to New York City. Three years later, he joined the U. S. Army at Camp Lewis, Washington.

In 1919, he arrived in Elko, Nevada. Later, in Reno, he worked for the Purity French Bakery and was elected secretary of the Bakers and Confectionery Workers Union.

He was allied politically to Senator Patrick A. McCarran from 1932 until the Senator's death in 1954.

In 1932, Mr. Petersen was elected president of the Nevada State Federation of Labor. Shortly thereafter he was appointed a deputy collector for the Internal Revenue Service. In 1935, he went to work for the Nevada Industrial Commission, and in 1937 he was appointed postmaster for Reno. Upon retirement from the postal service, Petersen was appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission by Governor Grant Sawyer.
