Administrative History
Reno High School, the oldest high school in Reno, Nevada, opened in 1879 and was called Central School. Originally located between 4th and 5th Streets and Arlington and West Streets, it was a dual elementary/high school serving the population of Reno. In 1910, a fire in the chemistry lab led to the building being demolished and rebuilt on the same spot. The new building, completed in 1912, was the first used strictly by high school aged students and was also renamed Reno High School. That building was used until 1951 when a new building was constructed on the corner of Foster and Booth Streets. The current Reno High School building opened in 1951 and is still in use today.
In 1995, an alumni association was formed and the idea for an Alumni Building began taking place. The building construction started in August 1999 and finished in January of 2000.
