Biographical Note

Patrick N. Kelly was born in Ireland around 1832. He emigrated to the United States and married Margaret Tobin in St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, California on April 20, 1862. By 1867, Margaret and Patrick had relocated to Gold Hill, Storey County, Nevada and filed a homestead claim for two lots in Gold Hill. The 1870 census shows them living with a number of individuals, some who appear to be family and others possibly lodgers. Other family members include Kate, John, and Henry, who ranged in age from less than one year to 5 in 1870. Patrick received American citizenship on October 12, 1868 in Storey County, Nevada. Although information regarding the Kelly family is sparse, by the turn of the 20th century some family members had relocated to California and Montana.
