In 1999, a joint project between the Nevada Humanities Committee and the Reno Gazette Journal newspaper set out to document the lives of northern Nevadans at the turn of the 21st century. Don Cox, along with volunteer moderators Jim McCormick, Mary Lee Fulkerson, Jim Hulse, and Rollan Melton, traveled the state to interview individuals and groups and to chronicle the end of a millennium and the coming of another. The interviews, documented in this collection, were published as a series of articles in the Reno Gazette Journal as well as turned into a full length book entitled Stories from the Sagebrush: Celebrating Northern Nevada at the Millennium, published by the Nevada Humanities Committee in 1999.
