Biographical Note
Joe Franklin Melcher, Jr. was born on December 20, 1929 in Iowa. As a child, his family lived in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nevada. Melcher attended the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating in 1953. In the early 1950s, Melcher married Margaret. They had three sons, Kevin, Joe III, and Todd. From 1979-1999, Melcher served as Washoe County Recorder from 1979-1999.
