Scope and Contents

JoAnne Peden, in her work over the years, collected and created a number of documents about Fort McDermitt and the Indian Reservation there. Series 1 contains materials from Professor Elmer Rusco concerning the McDermitt Reservation, Paiute Indian history, his paper delivered to the Great Basin Anthropological Conference (1984), as well as notes, some correspondence, and copies of documents he made during one of his trips to the National Archives.

Series 2 contains copies of oral history interview transcripts with Herman Crutcher and Betty Crutcher of Fort McDermitt made by Peden with Paiute individuals for UNR Oral History Program. It also contains a draft of a narrative to be used with the documentary, "Red Mountain Dwellers."

Biographical / Historical

JoAnne Peden is an anthropologist who works primarily with the Paiute Tribes in Nevada. Peden was employed by the University of Nevada Oral History Project before it was closed in 2007. Over the years, she worked closely with other anthropologists and ethnographers, including Elmer Rusco. Rusco is best known for his work with under-represented communities in Nevada.

Abstract

JoAnne Peden is an anthropologist who works primarily with the Paiute Tribes in Nevada.
