Historical Note

James K. Wallace camped with an old Basque herder in Nevada and wrote about the experience for the National Wool Growers Association. The essay was originally published in the journal National Wool Grower in December 1949. It was reprinted in Reader's Digest in June 1950 and again in July 1980, as well as in The Oregon Desert in 2003.
