Overview

John Gilbertson was a teacher for Washoe County School District in Nevada from 1977-2009, retiring from Reno High School. He taught at Nixon High School (Nixon, Nevada) for one year from 1979-1980. This collection contains Gilbertson's transcribed teaching journal from the year spent at Nixon.

Biographical / Historical

John Gilbertson began his teaching career for Washoe County School District in Nevada under a one year contract at Reed High School in Sparks from 1977-1978. When the teacher for whom he was filling in returned from leave, he served as a substitute teacher until he was hired as the first teacher at Nixon High School in Nixon, Nevada by Marvin Moss. Glibertson served as the teacher there for the one year WCSD administered the school. In 1980, after the Bureau of Indian Affairs assumed control, Gilbertson was hired to teach at Reno High School. He remained there until his retirement in 2009.
