Overview

Brian Sandoval served as the 29th Governor of Nevada from 2011-2018. Prior to serving as Governor, Sandoval also served as a United State District Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Nevada (2005-2009). The collection contains documents regarding Sandoval's confirmation as District Judge, investiture speeches, and his resignation as Judge.

Biographical Note

Brian Sandoval was born on August 5, 1963, to Gloria Gallegos and Ron Sandoval in Redding, California. His family relocated to Reno where Sandoval spent his youth. He attended Little Flower School, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, graduating in 1981, and the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelors of Arts in English and Economics. Upon graduation from UNR, Sandoval went on to attain a Juris Doctor from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1989. He returned to Nevada and passed the exam in both Nevada and California. After passing the bar exam, Sandoval began working in a private law practice before opening his own law firm in 1999.

Since 1994, Sandoval has been elected or appointed to a number of political positions in the state of Nevada: Assemblyman, 1994-1998; Nevada State Gaming Commission, 1998-2001 (chair from 1999-2001); Attorney General of Nevada, 2003-2005; Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada appointed by Senator Harry Reid, 2005-2009; and 29th Governor of Nevada, 2011-2018. While Governor, Sandoval also served as the chair for the National Governors Association, from 2017-2018.
