Scope and Contents

The collection contains miscellaneous family papers of Mildred Jessie (Greenlee) Byers and family. A majority of materials are letters, with some photographs included. Additionally, a few certificates and pay stubs from Jessie Byers can be found in the collection. Pay stubs are from Jessie's time as postmaster in Lamoille, Nevada.

Biographical Note

Mildred Jessie Greenlee was born on February 13, 1882, in Pennsylvania to Arthur Claudius Greenlee and Emma Estelle Yates. By 1900, the family had relocated to Oregon, where she met and married James Byers on June 24, 1903. James, who was born in Ireland on March 16, 1871, and Jessie had two children: Louis Byers and Mildred Louise Byers. James died on December 5, 1946, in Lamoille, Nevada, and Jessie died on April 21, 1969, in Reno, Nevada. Mildred, who was born on July 20, 1904, in Sumpter, Oregon, later married Julius LaVerne Lane on December 8, 1928, in Lorain, Ohio. Mildred and LaVern were both artists and lived in Reno, Nevada.
