Scope and Contents

The Chilton Engineering and Surveying records contain aerial photographs, field notes, and maps belonging to Chilton Engineering and Surveying, a company based out of Elko, Nevada. Series 1 contains aerial photographs taken by Chilton Engineering, primarily of northern and central Nevada. Series 2 contains field notes about various locations and plats, ranging from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Series 3 contains oversized materials, mostly maps, used in surveying.

Biographical / Historical

Chilton Engineering and Surveying was founded in 1969 by Mark Chilton of Elko, Nevada. The firm worked primarily on civil engineering projects and surveying in northeastern Nevada, though it also performed work throughout the rest of the state. Chilton retired in the early 2000s, with the company being purchased by Reno-based Farr West Engineering in 2012.

Custodial History

The records of Chilton Engineering and Surveying were acquired by Farr West Engineering, when the company purchased Chilton in 2012.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated by Farr West Engineering in July 2017.

Processing Information

Aerial photographs weeded for duplicates. Certain duplicates kept if they included annotated information on the prints.
