Scope and Contents

The Gould & Curry Silver Mining Company Records chiefly contains letterpress books of weekly reports to the company officers in San Francisco from mine superintendents Louis Janin, Isaac Requa, James G. Fair, F. G. Osbiston, and Darin Bowie (1865-1885). Also included are reports of operations (June 1888-July 1889); a payroll list (February 1912); an agreement for consolidation of corporations (1933); stock certificates; and a report to stockholders (1912).

Administrative History

The Gould & Curry Silver Mining Company was a part of the Middle Mines of the Comstock Lode, Nevada, located in 1859, incorporated and in operation in 1860. In 1864, the company absorbed the North Potosi and Seneca mining claims as a result of a lawsuit; in 1876 they began joint operation of a shaft with the Best and Belcher Mining Company. Gould & Curry was part of an 1895 merger of Comstock companies into the Brunswick Exploration Company; in 1922 they became part of the Comstock Merger Mines, Incorporation.
