Smith Papers includes biographical information; personal correspondence; working papers for Smith's community service involvement with the American National Red Cross, Western Community Action Training, Inc., Community Service Council, and Nevada State Comprehensive Health Planning Advisory Council, and information about the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Nevada (NAACP). Of special interest is a scrapbook, 1942-1961, documenting her work with the Red Cross, Washoe County Council of Church Women, and the NAACP.

Biographical Note
Reno, Nevada, black woman and activist. In 1945 Alice and her husband, Alfred O. Smith (1893-1946), established Nevada's first chapter of the NAACP in Reno. Alice Smith was active in the League of Women Voters, American Red Cross, Washoe County Council of United Church Women, Sparks Business and Professional Women, Community Service Council (Reno), Order of Eastern Star, the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Sparks United Methodist Church.
