Scope and Contents
The Effie Mona Mack Papers contains the edited manuscript, photographs, and maps for Mack's book Nevada; a history of the state from earliest times through the Civil War, published in 1935, which covers the history of Nevada to 1864. Also included is her syllabus prepared for a high school history class on the history of Nevada from 1945.

Biographical Note
Effie Mona Mack was born on October 25, 1888, in Seneca, Kansas, to Emeline and Orel Mack. When she was 12, the family relocated to Reno, Nevada, where she attended Reno High School, the University of Nevada, and Smith College. After receiving her second degree in history in 1912, she returned to Nevada. From that point, Mack taught history at her alma mater as well as at the University of Nevada.
Mack was a recognized expert in Nevada history and wrote many books on the history of Nevada and the western United States, including Virginia City Times, Our State Nevada, and Here Is Nevada: A History of the State.
Effie Mona Mack passed away in Reno on February 1, 1969, and is buried in the Masonic Memorial Garden at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.
