Owens River Valley Indian land exchange
Scope and Contents
Included are reports, correspondence, chronology, legal agreements, maps, and photographs related to the acquisition of Owens Valley (California) Indian lands and water rights by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and compensation for the same. The final plan resulted in relocation of the Indians from Owens Valley to colonies near Bishop, Big Pine, Independence, and Lone Pine in eastern California. Also included is a diary of Mrs. Bertha Hall for her Indian welfare and health care work in the Owens Valley and Bishop areas from December 1931 to October 1932.
