Administrative History

Founded by John Gardner in the fall of 1970, Common Cause (national) is a nonpartisan citizens’ lobbying group with the purpose of bringing together individuals from across the nation in an effort to lobby elected officials on national issues of mutual concern. State chapters of Common Cause pursue issues relevant locally as well as on the larger national level.

Common Cause’s Nevada branch was organized in 1975. The purpose of Common Cause/Nevada, as stated in its governance plan, was “to work to involve more citizens in government, to the end that government may become more open, responsible, and accountable to the citizens.”

It is not known when Common Cause/Nevada ceased as an organization beyond the years included in this collection.
