Scope and Contents From the Collection: Bender's letter of June 30 to William J. Westerfield, V&TRR agent for the Virginia City, Nevada station, and later Nevada State Senator, asks about a shipment of coal and a missing cord of wood and comments on a horrible disaster in Virginia City. Westerfield's response of July 1 on the verso accounts for the wood and coal, provides details of the June 29th explosion and fire and their cause, and tells of a recent shooting in town.
