Administrative History

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension began its Master Gardener program in 1977, training volunteers aged 20 to 80 in the principles of horticulture and plant science. Master Gardeners throughout Nevada offer workshops and demonstrations, write fact sheets and newspaper columns, maintain Websites, plant for community beautification, develop community gardens, support food banks, and appear on television and radio programs to raise public awareness about home gardening, landscaping, and water conservation. The Junior Master Gardener Program is a collaboration with the 4-H Program.
