Scope and Contents

This collection contains a program, a video cassette, and a later DVD copy of the memorial service held at the University on September 27, 1996. Speakers at the service are President Joseph Crowley, Don Driggs, Leo McFadden, Ty Cobb, and Larry Struve. In his remarks, Crowley tells the history of the political science department.

Historical Note

Harry Michael Chase, Jr. (April 11, 1924-August 12, 1996) was originally from Kentucky and earned graduate degrees at University of Connecticut and Syracuse University. Before coming to UNR, he taught at Syracuse, eastern Kentucky, Richmond, and San Francisco State University, as well as universities in China and Thailand. He served for 25 years as a member of the political science faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno, and authored several studies of American foreign policy. After retiring in 1981, he made his home in San Francisco, California. A memorial service was held September 27, 1996, at the University of Nevada, Reno. Speakers at the service included university president Joseph N. Crowley, professor Don Driggs, Father Leo McFadden, and Chase's former students Tyrus W. Cobb and Larry Struve. In his remarks, Crowley tells the history of the political science department.
