Administrative History

The conference, "The Crisis in Values: Its Meaning for Higher Education in the 1980's" was a series of lectures and symposia held in April 1980, to stimulate discussion and to re-examine the role of higher education in society, and specifically in Nevada society, at the beginning of the 1980's. Speakers included Jerold Roschwalb, director of Governmental Relations for the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges; Robert Marshak, Distinguished Professor of Physics at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; Harold Taylor, former president of Sarah Lawrence College and director of the Center for International Service at the College of Staten Island; and Arthur Bestor, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Washington.

It was sponsored through the cooperation of the Graduate Council, the College of Arts and Science, the Corporate Giving Board, the Research Advisory Board, and the UNR Alumni Association. Matching grants were provided by the Nevada Humanities Committee and the National Endowment for the Humanities. James W. Hulse, Chairman of the Graduate Council, was project director.
