Scope and Contents
The University of Nevada Friends of the Library Records consist of copies of its bylaws and constitution, a history of its establishment, correspondence, membership rosters, minutes, lists of memoriam gifts, Noble H. Getchell Library material, and reproductions of historic items printed by the group for exhibits and other purposes. Of interest in the correspondence is a 1963 report about development of the library.

Historical Note
The Friends of the University of Nevada library was established on June 11, 1952, by the University of Nevada Library Advisory Committee, whose members were appointed by President Malcolm E. Love. Library Director James J. Hill was its consultant. The purpose was to maintain an association of persons interested in books, to assist in bringing to the university materials beyond the usual budget, and thus to contribute toward gaining for the state and its citizens a worthy collection of the records of art, literature and science. Robert A. Griffen was elected the first president of the Friends, serving from 1952-1954. Succeeding Presidents were: alumnus Alan Bible, 1955; Fred M. Anderson, 1956; Robert A. Griffen again from 1957-1961; Abbie B. Collins, 1962; Bruce R. Thompson, 1963-1964; and Clark J. Guild, Jr., in 1965.
