Scope and Contents
The collection includes materials generated by the Board of Regents while functioning under the name of the Nevada State University, which was in use from 1881-1905. A majority of the collection falls into two categories: correspondence and reports. Other materials include minutes, buildings, student and position applications, student courses in English and Geography, and financial statements for general university operations as well as the Agricultural Experiment Station. Also included are microfilm reels of Board of Regents minutes made from the official record books. The reels span the years 1865-1953. Original minute books are located in various collections based on the date of the original minute book.

Administrative History
The Board of Regents was established by the Nevada State Constitution in 1864, and the first Board was created in 1865. The Board is responsible for the governance of the institutions comprising the Nevada System of Higher Education. The original name of the organization was the University of Nevada System, which was established in 1968. It became the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN) in December 1991. The Board of Regents voted to change the system's name in February 2004. Subsequently, through Assembly Bill No. 527, which was adopted by the Nevada legislature and signed by the Governor on May 18, 2005, its name became the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). The Board meets regularly and has additional committee meetings. All regular and committee meetings are open to the public.
