Scope and Contents
The Thomas E. Burckman Papers include information on Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, 1920, 1928; reports on Washoe County by agricultural agent S. E. Merrill, 1920-1922; the Nevada State Farm Bureau, 1920s-1930s; the Taylor Grazing Act, 1934-1936; Nevada 4-H clubs and camps, 1940s-1950s; a script of radio broadcasts on agricultural issues, 1950-1951; and the Nevada State Drought Committee, 1953. Also included are records on his activities after retirement, including his appointment to the Governor's Committee on Aging; correspondence on the Taylor Grazing Act, 1963; and a member of the Washoe County Community Action Association, 1966.
In addition, there is a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings on agricultural issues, including reclamation, livestock, the Nevada Farm Bureau, 4-H, etc., 1924-1926.

Thomas E. Buckman (1895-1977) graduated from the University of Nevada in 1921, and was a charter member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He served as Lyon county extension agent, 1921-1922, and Washoe county extension agent, 1923-1925, before joining the University of Nevada extension division as associate professor in 1925. He retired in 1955 as assistant director.
