Administrative History
In 1899, during the administration of President Joseph E. Stubbs, the College of Arts and Science replaced the Department of Liberal Arts and Science at the Nevada State University. The College of Arts and Science was responsible for administration of correspondence study from 1944 through May 31, 1947. In June 1947, administrative responsibility for correspondence study was unofficially transferred to the Office of Admissions and Records. There was a Director of Correspondence from 1947 through June 1948. That position became the Director of Correspondence and Extension in June 1948. The Correspondence Study Department was conducted in conjunction with the Extension Department. The first extension class was conducted in the spring of 1948. In early 1950, the Correspondence Study Department was separated from the Office of Admissions and Records and transferred to the School of Education. The Correspondence Study Department existed from 1945-1960.
