Biographical / Historical

The University Council was established in 1959 to formulate and recommend to the university president legislation relative to university educational policy and faculty welfare. The Council was succeeded by the University Senate (Faculty Senate) in 1967. The Faculty Senate appoints its own committees, including the Professional Training and Development Taskforce, which was established in 2005 to support a campus climate that encourages faculty and staff to keep current with research, teaching, technology, institutional changes and new ideas.
