Overview

The Honorary Board of Visitors for the State University of Nevada was created during the Seventeenth Session of the State Legislature via Senate Bill No. 12 in February 1895. The Board was to consist of 15 members, one from each county, appointed by the Governor. The collection consists of one certificate executed by Governor E. P. Carville, appointing Arnold A. Millard as a member of the Honorary Board of Visitors of the University of Nevada on February 25, 1944.

Historical Note

The Honorary Board of Visitors for the State University of Nevada was created during the Seventeenth Session of the State Legislature via Senate Bill No. 12 in February 1895. The Board was to consist of 15 members, one from each county. Members were to be appointed by the Governor. The Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court was to preside over the Board, which was to hold annual meetings and have full supervision over the affairs of the University.

Arnold A. Millard was born in Nevada in 1896 and lived in Carson City. He served as President of the Carson City Board of Trustees and was also Mayor of Carson City in the 1930s. He was the first Vice President of the Carson City Lions Club, which was established in 1932. He was Chairman of the Ormsby County Coordinating Committee in 1944, Chairman of the Carson Housing Authority in 1946, and Chairman of the Board of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Association in 1949. He was President of the Carson City Brewing Company. He died in 1984.
