Scope and Contents

The University of Nevada, Reno Greek Organizations Collection contains primarily flyers posted and distributed throughout campus regarding special events hosted by various Greek organizations. Additionally, a VHS of the Inaugural Induction ceremony of the honor society at UNR in 1998 is also included.

Collection is open for research. Materials must be used on-site; advance notice suggested. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.

Historical Note

The University of Nevada's Fraternity and Sorority Community exists to promote a unified community of integrity, character, and cultural diversity.

As of 2018, the University of Nevada, Reno hosted 30 separate Greek organizations. These organizations are governed by student-led boards called councils. At the UNR, there are three different councils that provide governance, accountability, educational opportunities, and structure for the fraternities and sororities, including the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and Panhellenic Council (PHC).

Participation in a fraternity or sorority provides an experience like no other on a college campus. Members of fraternities and sororities commit to lifelong participation in their organization and aspire to high ideals and values that guide members throughout their collegiate education and beyond. Immediately upon membership, an individual will be invited to experience all of the benefits of fraternity and sorority membership.

The UNR Greek organizations' foundation rests on the extended support system created by participants, which fosters members' academic, personal, and professional successes. As a community, it strives to improve not only individual members but also the local community as a whole with the hope that members lifelong connection will provide a positive and lasting effect on all.
