Abstract

The records consist of descriptions of the Archives project, correspondence, financial records; minutes of its Advisory Board, information about Jean Ford's activities in coordinating the project, survey responses concerning potential historical documents, and resources available in university libraries and other Nevada organizations supporting the history of women in Nevada. Administrative History

The Nevada Women's Archives Project was a cooperative statewide initiative begun in the Special Collections Department of the University of Nevada, Reno Libraries in 1992 under the direction of former State Senator Jean Ford, who was acting Director of Women's Studies at UNR and the founder of the Nevada Women's History Project. The archives project expanded in September 1994 as part of the Special Collections Department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Library. It was envisioned that the Nevada Women's Archives would become a coalition of Nevada repositories (archives, manuscript repositories, libraries, historical societies and museums) that would collect materials about Nevada women, women's organizations, and women's issues. The goal was to encourage resource sharing, enhance public education, support the preservation of Nevada women's historical resources, and help disseminate information about the resources.

Arrangement

The records are arranged in three series: 1) Administrative Records; 2) Survey; 3) Resources and Acquisitions.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

UNR Special Collections records transferred from UNR Library Records accession in 1990s; Jean Ford material donated by the Nevada Women's History Project in December 2016.
