Biographical Note

Mick Sheldon is a Reno-born artist and University of Nevada alumnus. He earned an MFA degree in painting from the University of California at Davis in 1992. He became a full-time professor of art at American River College in 2004 and served as Director of the James Kaneko Gallery at the college. He works in various media and styles: sculpture, oil, and woodblocks and takes great inspiration from observing contemporary life in the West, using light, color and space to express the heroic energy of our region. He has maintained a “Horglot” theme in his sculpture for 35 years, and often makes use of whimsy and humor in his work.
