Biographical / Historical

The Black Lives Matter Students Expressions project was founded by Everett Jackson and Devin Williams, both staff in the University of Nevada, Reno Las Vegas Office for Prospective Students, in response to ongoing police violence against Black people and the increasingly widespread concern and protests against the violence as well as the "Listen to Us" platform and an open letter from Black student leaders.

The project is a coordinated effort to incorporate student thoughts and expressions about the BLM movement into their existing coursework in all subjects. The resulting expressions are being collected, both in the University Archives and at the Lilley Museum, as an effort to preserve and document this work. Over 70 classes are participating in 2020.

Everett Jackson is the Director of the UNR Las Vegas Office for Prospective Students beginning in 2006. He was previously the Educational Services Manager for the K-12 and Higher Ed for the College Board, Associate Director of Admissions for the University of Southern California, and Vice-President of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Devin Williams is an Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator in the UNR Las Vegas Office for Prospective Students. He is also the Coordinator for the Nevada Scholars of Tomorrow program.
