The Public Occasions Committee oversaw the annual Performing Artists Series from 1966-1985. In October 1985, the group's name became the Performing Arts Committee, and the name of the annual cultural programming became the Performing Arts Series. The programming is administered by the School of the Arts within the College of Liberal Arts. Events include dance, music, and theatrical performances. Truckee Meadows Community College has jointly sponsored the series.
