Administrative History
The Nevada Wolf Shop is a non-profit organization operated for the benefit of University of Nevada students and faculty. The operation of the bookstore is under the jurisdiction of the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) Board of Finance Control. The original store was purchased in 1951, and was located at 20 East 9th Street, on the south end of the campus. The intention was that all profits, after all loans were paid and adequate operating capital was acquired, would go to build a Student Union Building. This plan was approved by the Board of Regents. Subsequently, however, funding from the Jot Travis estate and matching funds from the State of Nevada, enabled the University to construct the Jot Travis Student Union building without use of bookstore profits. Therefore, surplus bookstore funding was allocated for expansion of the Jot Travis Student Union and bookstore facilities. In the fall of 1958, the bookstore was moved into the Jot Travis Student Union and became one of the first university stores on a small campus to go to self-service. In the fall of 1963, the bookstore moved to the lower level of the new wing of the Jot Travis Student Union. The ASUN Graduate Manager, under the supervision of the ASUN Board of Finance Control, is manager of the bookstore and is responsible for all financial activities of the ASUN. In 2007, the bookstore moved into the new Joe Crowley Student Union at 87 West Stadium Way.
In the summer of 2011, the name of the bookstore became the Nevada Wolf Shop.
