Administrative History

The University had an Assemblies and Lectures Committee in 1960. The Public Occasions Committee was organized within the Department of English in early 1962 to sponsor an annual artist-lecture series for the University community from funds provided by the University budget and subscription proceeds, to serve in consultation for University events of a public nature, and to administer the Fulton Foundation Lecture series.

The first University of Nevada Artist-Lecture Series was offered in 1962-1963, with funding from ASUN, the Jot Travis Union, and the University. By May 1964, the group’s name had become the Public Occasions Board. Its programming was called the Performing Artists Series from 1966-1985. In October 1985, the group’s name became the Performing Arts Committee.
