University Archives Sound Recordings Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AC 0062
An artificial collection of sound recordings, 1950-1997. Identification of event or speaker is from information written on recording containers. The audio recordings were transferred to University Archives by various campus units at different times. Recordings include commencement program speakers, speeches and interviews by campus administrators and faculty, and interviews with Nevada writers. Of particular interest are Carl Sandburg's address at the 1959 commencement ceremony, the 1963 inaugural broadcast of KUNR, and the Western Writers series that features interviews by prominent regional authors, including Bill Douglass, Shaun Griffin, Teresa Jordan, Steven Nightingale, nila northSun, Gailmarie Pahmeier, Kirk Robertson, Bernie Schopen, Emma Sepulveda, and Sally Zanjani. The 1953 commencement program includes the inauguration of University President Minard W. Stout. In 2013, several of the recordings were transferred onto CD disks. The wire recordings of a University tour group's description of travel in Europe in 1950 were transferred to audiocassettes.
