Scope and Contents

The Oral History Transcripts consists of 5 bound volumes of transcribed tapes. Also, there are two reel-to-reel audio tapes (with cassette copies) of 1971/72 interviews with Emerson S. Davis, past Black Student Union President, and Hugh Mozingo, Chairman of the Faculty Senate. The transcriptions are found in the volume for 1971/72, but the tapes were also deposited in Archives. The Davis interview is incomplete, beginning on page 189 of transcribed interview.

Administrative History

In 1970/71, the Oral History Program at the University of Nevada and the University Archives initiated a program to interview prominent members of the University community to comment on the previous year. The objective was to present a picture of the past year as observed by students, faculty, and others who were involved and concerned with the University. Among those interviewed were chairs of the Board of Regents, Faculty Senate, various faculty committees and boards, members of the Alumni Association, as well as student leaders including editors of the school newspaper, elected student officials, and leaders in student organizations and clubs. Not only were specific events covered, but also general trends affecting the University and higher education throughout the country. The project ended with the 1973-74 school year.

Abstract
