Overview

The Agricultural Experiment Station began with the 1887 Hatch Act to develop agricultural research and education. In 1918, Samuel B. Doten, Station director, hired George Hardman and put him in charge of the Station farm and on the faculty. Hardman worked on an irrigation investigation of the Humboldt River, 1919-1921, and on soil experiments both in Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection primarily documents George Hardman's tenure with the Nevada Experiment Station, 1919-1934, and includes correspondence with Samuel B. Doten, correspondence with the public and other state agencies, field notes on soils and crops, and hand drawn maps of the Humboldt River system. In addition, there are limited records dealing with the National Resources Board, National Emergency Council, Agricultural Adjustment Administration, and the Resettlement Administration, 1935-1936; and the War Board, 1942-1943.
