Scope and Contents
The University of Nevada, Reno Graduate Student Association Records include the minutes of the first meeting in 1966 and the initial development of the Graduate Student Association through 1969. The majority of records document the 1980s and 1990s, and include the president's notebooks, which contain information on the constitution, meetings, and committees; meeting minutes; surveys; and participation in the National Group of Graduate and Professional Students, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of graduate student life in the United States. Also included is information on an etching by western artist Roy Purcell, commissioned by the association for the University's centennial in Reno, 1985.

Administrative History
The Graduate Student Association (GSA) was established in September 1966, with the stated purpose to promote the welfare and interests of the graduate students of the University of Nevada. Among the activities and services offered are socials and assistance with travel, awards and scholarships. The association is also concerned with non-academic issues such as tuition, funding for graduate assistants, child care, health care, and parking. The association is composed of a Council of Representatives, selected by each academic college and school, and a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.
