Biographical / Historical
The Cheverie family immigration to North America started with Antoine Dechevery. He was born in Baiona in 1707 and eventually left Europe to immigrate to Canada. After several generations of Decheverys living in Canada and the United States of America, Tom Cheverie started to undertake genealogical and historical research on his family. He traveled across Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island, St. Pierre, and Donibane Lohitzune in the Northern Basque Country to visit several archives. He donated his research to the Jon Bilbao Basque Library in 1993.
