Biographical / Historical
José Luis de la Lombana was a member of the Basque Nationalist Party (EAJ-PNV) from Araba who went on exile during the Spanish Civil War. He studied in Madrid, but after the coup in 1936 he was imprisoned in Vitoria-Gasteiz. He fled to France and later to the United States, where he became the PNV delegate in the Second World Congress of pro-Peace Youth. He then went on to become an activist in the United States, trying to build bridges of understanding between the American and Basque-catholic-American societies. After the Spanish Civil War was over in 1939, he moved to Colombia, where he help with the creation of the Euskal Etxea in Bogota.
