Abstract Bender's letter of June 30 to William J. Westerfield, V&TRR agent for the Virginia City, Nevada station, and later Nevada State Senator, asks about a shipment of coal and a missing cord of wood and comments on a horrible disaster in Virginia City. Westerfield's response of July 1 on the verso accounts for the wood and coal, provides details of the June 29th explosion and fire and their cause, and tells of a recent shooting in town.

Abstract Includes maps, deeds, agreements, receipts for wood, and accounts of wood, chiefly dealing with a wood drive to Empire and Dayton, Nevada, in 1876. Most of the documents were signed by H. M. Yerington. The participating companies were Nevada Flume Company, El Dorado Flume Company, Virginia and Truckee Railroad Company, and Stadtmuller and Company. The areas involved included Corrall Creek and Poison Valley in Alpine County, California, and Long Valley, Nevada.
