Abstract In the 1950s, some students participated in an almost annual prank of removing the bell clapper from Morrill Hall. When the bell clapper disappeared in 1956, however, its whereabouts remained unknown for 56 years. In 2012, Marilyn Melton discovered the clapper in an unopened box that had been in storage since the death of her husband, journalist Rollan Melton, in 2002.
