Abstract Howard Edgar Browne (1896-1990) attended the University of Nevada (1914-1918), Yale Law School, and Harvard Law School. He served as the District Attorney for Lander County, Nevada from 1922-1942, and was in private practice from 1945-1984. In 1927, Browne married Vera May Haviland, who also attended the University of Nevada. Both the Browne and the Haviland families were early settlers in northern Nevada. The Cortez Mines, Ltd. was a mine on the southwest slope of Mt. Tenabo on the border of Lander and Eureka Counties, Nevada. The collection contains inventories of supplies, 1899-1907, for goods used at the mine such as wood, soda, salt, fuel and explosives, and the amount of each used at the mine or mill.

Andrew Dibble was a rancher who was primarily active in second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. This collection contains records of Dibble's memories, dictated to his son, about his travels from 1867-1935 across the U.S., working as a teamster for the U.S. Army, telling of conflicts between settlers and indigenous nations, Custer's Custer's campaigns in the western U.S., running cattle to Abilene, Kansas, and to eastern Nevada, and ranching near Fallon, Nevada.

Abstract The First Baptist Church of Reno was established in Reno, Nevada in 1875 as a spin-off of an earlier congregation in Virginia City, Nevada. It was governed by a Board of Trustees; a number of societies and circles were organized for women, youth, and men. Reverand C. L.
